The Bangles' Susanna Hoffs covers Prince's "Take Me With You"

The Bangles' Susanna Hoffs paid tribute to Prince with a newly recorded version of the Purple Rain classic, "Take Me With You." Vintage Vinyl News reported the version, featuring Hoffs on acoustic guitar and backed by a string quartet, "is a benefit for the charity Mending Kids which provides critical surgical care for sick children." Hoffs has previously covered the tune as a bonus track on the third volume of ongoing side project with Mathew Sweet, called Under The Covers.

According to legend, Prince was enamored of Hoffs back in the mid-'80s and in an effort to woo her, donated "Manic Monday" to the Bangles. The song, which was credited to "Christopher" -- the lead character in Prince's second film, 1986's Under A Cherry Moon -- broke the Bangles nationally, when the song zoomed up the charts, peaking at Number Two behind Prince's own chart-topper, "Kiss."

  • Coming on June 23rd will be a deluxe expanded edition of Prince's 1984 Purple Rain album. The set will include a second disc of outtakes, a third disc and B-sides and edited mixes, as well as the DVD, Prince And The Revolution, Live At The Carrier Dome, Syracuse, NY, March 30, 1985.
