Beware of IRS Scams

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office wants county residents to be aware of the current increase of IRS Scams. These scams take place over the phone with the scammer telling the victim they owe money to the IRS. They will then demand the victim pay the fine via a Pre-Paid Credit Card or by a Pay-Pal Account They will also threaten the victim by telling them they will have local law enforcement arrest them if they don’t comply.

If you don’t answer they will leave a voice mail asking you to call 912-348-0232 which claims to be either the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office or the United States Marshal’s Office. Do not make that call!

If anyone feels that they have been a victim of this scam or have any information they should contact CCSO Investigative Unit 912-652-7681 or Sheriff Wilcher at 912-652-7609.

You should always be skeptical of any unsolicited telemarketing phone solicitation.
