Georgia Building removes stairs trapping people on the second floor

Firefighters in Georgia (Decatur) had to rescue several people trapped on the second floor of an apartment building after the complex removed the stairs. The staircase at the Maple Walk Apartments is the only way in and out of several apartments but after it began to give way management sent letters to residents saying they’d need to find a place to stay for a couple of days during repairs. Some people say they didn’t get the letters and, when they tried to leave Tuesday morning, found themselves trapped. The letter offered to pay for hotel rooms for residents who had to move out.
