If you’re a first responder, you know that it’s your job to run toward danger when everyone else seems to be running away. And after 30 years on the job, Peter Dipinto — a firefighter in New York — knows when he’s needed. He heard a crash near his house and saw that a woman was pinned by airbags inside her car. Her car was also stuck on some train tracks — and there was a train speeding toward the intersection where the crash occurred. Peter ran to the car from his house and did the unthinkable. He managed to pull out the mother from her SUV with just seconds to spare. The vehicle was struck and sent 50 feet into some brush.
