Getting the hiccups can be really uncomfortable, but there’s a new product that promises to help get rid of them fast. It’s a 3D-printed straw that creates “forceful suction” and is available for purchase in the US and UK for about $14. It’s called HiccAway and promises to stop hiccups instantly after one or two sips of water from the reusable straw. The developers of the straw claim it works by creating pressure when you sip, which in turn lowers your diaphragm and opens and closes your epiglottis (a flap of tissue that sits beneath the tongue at the back of the throat.) Two nerves are then stimulated, telling your brain to reset and stopping the hiccups.
