A local business is leaving a seat open at its two Myrtle Beach area bars in memory of the 13 U.S. service members killed this week in a suicide bombing at the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. “God Bless & Rest in Peace” reads a post on the Facebook page of the Tavern in Surfside. Inside, at the bar, a sign says: “This seat is reserved in memory of our 13 fallen heroes.” Customers who go to Tavern in the Forest will see the same honor.
Businesses nationwide are doing their own tributes and the stories are rapidly going viral.
Several San Antonio-area bars are remembering the 13 US service members that were killed in the Kabul airport attack just last week.
The movement transpired on social media over the weekend, with local bars reserving tables, chairs and 13 drinks in honor of the fallen soldiers.
Box 903, the Thirsty Horse Saloon, Brews Brothers, and the Beer Goggles Bar in Live Oak all took part in the movement, giving thanks to the soldiers that will not be returning home.
Comments lit up social media like this one:
That’s a nice thing to do but what a sorry nation we live in where millions mourn an athlete who dies who did nothing for this nation but play with a little ball yet overlook others who’ve paid the ultimate price to protect them from the enemy who threatens us all.
