Before the opening night performance of Verdi's Don Carlos, the audience observed a moment of silence, followed by the Ukrainian national anthem, performed by the Met Orchestra and Chorus and conducted by Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
A show of solidarity for Ukraine on opening night at the Metropolitan Opera. They chose to begin with the Ukrainian National Anthem and once they begin you see the audience standing. Note the singer with his hand over his heart. That is baritone Vlad Boyarsky, a 24 year old who is from Ukraine and his family is still there. The Opera asked him to teach him the words as the Met says: we stand in solidarity with Ukraine and dedicate the rest of the season to their courage. The baritone said this was the most emotional moment of his life....
