Airline customer service agents often encounter situations when passengers experience a medical crisis.
Knowing this American Airlines agent Rodney Tabaniag decided to learn basic CPR and continued his medical training in his off hours and at his own expense. Today Rodney is a Certified Emergency Medical Technician and last week was honored by American Airlines for his role in saving three lives in 2021.
American Airlines honored Rodney with their Real American Hero Award and most employees will spend a career working and may be nominated for the award or actually win it once. Rodney, on the other hand, has won the award a total of six times in his career.
This somewhat shy and unassuming man simply says he wanted the training so he could be in a position to help if anything were to happen. "If it happened to me, I would want someone to help so I could see my family again" and that is exactly the role this agent for American Airlines has filled time and time again.
