The city of Muncie Indiana's animal shelter is having a tough time keeping up with the cat population with 350 of them being housed right now. And the number of feral cats being brought in continues to rise.
So the police department came up with the idea of pay outstanding parking tickets by bringing in cat food or litter. They'll also accept paper towels, pet beds, and blankets. The community thinks the idea is awesome.
It started out as an idea that only ran for a few days. But now it's been expanded and deemed a huge success. Parking ticket fines are being paid and the shelter is swimming in pet food.
They say that other police departments around the country should consider trying this too.
