The superintendent of the Milpitas Unified School District has an unusual request...to let teachers rent rooms in parents' homes.
Due to the high cost of living in the San Francisco area, most teachers would not qualify for a lease in a typical one-bedroom apartment, which averages over $3,000 per month.
"We've lost out on some employees that we tried to recruit because once they see how much it costs to live here, they determine that it's just not possible," superintendent Cheryl Jordan said. So far, 34 families have shown interest in helping out.
