The staff at a central Iowa funeral home was surprised when a woman who was believed to be dead turned out to be alive. The Ankeny, Iowa, fire department was called to the Ankeny Funeral Home and Crematory at around 8:30AM on January 3. The fire department said first responders were initially called for a cardiac arrest incident. The crew determined the patient was not in cardiac arrest, and they began to treat the patient before they were taken to a hospital. Scanner audio obtained by a local TV station (KCCI) gives more detail about the incident. A first responder can be heard saying, “Just so you know, this female was transported there deceased, and she is not. They are in the chapel, and she is on a cot.” When asked about the incident the funeral home said in a statement: “Out of respect for the privacy and confidentiality of the families we are honored to serve, we are not in a position to comment further on this matter.”
Here's how a local TV station covered this along with some scanner audio.
