This may be the one animal abuse story that you can't forget: A Florida animal shelter is looking for the person who cemented a dog to a sidewalk, leaving him there for days.
The Tri-County Humane of Boca Raton, Florida, posted the heartbreaking story to its Facebook page on January 23.
"He was cemented to the ground," the post read. "You read that right. Completely stuck to the sidewalk for what seemed like days. He was left to die."
They described the dog's smell as "unbearable." A vet had to shave him down after seeing maggots crawling in his fur. He also had overgrown nails and "terrible" dental decay. They then named the dog, "Trooper" saying that he was diagnosed with 22 ailments and 22 medical conditions in one day, including paralysis, heart murmur, worms, enlarged prostate, ear infections and UTI.
So far the shelter has raised more than $14,000 to help pay for medical expenses.
The shelter's Facebook post said: Trooper needs your help. He has his guardian angel in Parker but he needs his hero in you. He needs a team of heroes.
His medical care has already reached $2,500 but our real need is to get him to a specialist to see if we can get him to walk.
If we can find 22 heroes through this post. One for each of his medical conditions, we will be one step closer to giving Trooper the life his past 10 years were not. If everyone who follows us donates just $22 we can finally put a smile on his face and a wag through his tail. Please help us help him.
