A very small alligator is getting some tender care at the Bronx Zoo after being rescued by Urban Park Rangers from a lake in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. The alligator is so weak from starvation that she has to be tube-fed with fluids, vitamins and medication, a statement from the zoo said. An X-ray shows that the gator swallowed a bath stopper at some point, which suggests that some idiot was keeping her as a pet and then abandoned her. City police are investigating. The emaciated animal needs to gain at least 15 pounds to be an appropriate weight for her size. "This situation is a reminder that wild animals do not make good pets," a statement from the Bronx Zoo says.
