The youngest Black person ever to be appointed as a professor at England’s prestigious University of Cambridge has quite a story to tell his students. Jason Arday was diagnosed with autism during his childhood in south London. He didn’t speak until he was 11 and didn’t learn to read until he was 18. Now 37, he went on to earn a college degree, two master’s degrees and a PhD. He attributes his ability to engage with the world to his mother, who encouraged him to use music to make sense of the world. Arday is now teaching sociology at Cambridge. Amazing!
