A woman (Gia Savocchi) in Northport, Long Island, New York, was in a car crash, and her Volkswagen was declared totaled by her insurance company. She anticipated that someone might decide to repair it, so she “put information in the glove box just in case” someone “has a question about its history.” Then she received a letter. It stated that her car was shipped to Ukraine and arrived the day before Russia invaded. A Ukrainian mechanic fixed the car — and loaded his family into it and fled the war, going all the way to the Czech Republic, a trip 800 miles. The man wrote in his letter: “I gave her a second life and she gave me [one]. I love this car.”
