A man who was permanently paralyzed in an accident more than a decade ago is walking again after implantation of an experimental device. Doctors at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology implanted a “brain-spine interface” that creates a neurological link between the brain and spinal cord and wirelessly transmits the person’s intentions for movement to an external device that is worn like a backpack. Gert-Jan Oskam, who is 40 and lives in The Netherlands, is learning to walk using the device. Check out his story here!
