Marie Callender's Pies Recalled For Potential Foreign Matter Contamination

Conagra Brands, Inc. is raising the alarm about approximately 2,717 pounds of frozen beef shepherd's pie products that could contain bits of clear, flexible plastic, among other foreign materials. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall on June 16.

The targeted products were made on March 1, 2023, with time stamps ranging from 17:45 to 17:56 and a best-before date of February 24, 2024. More specifically, products subject to recall include 4.31-pound cases containing six 11.05-ounce carton packages labeled "Marie Callender's Beef Shepherd's Pie." Retail distribution lists will be posted on the FSIS website once available.

FSIS says it has received customer complaints of clear, flexible plastic in the products, but that there have been "no confirmed reports of adverse reactions to consumption of these products.”

From the press release: "FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase."

This particular recall has been categorized as Level II—Low Risk, defined as “a health hazard situation where there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the products.”

Concerned shoppers are told to contact the Conagra Consumer Care Hotline at 877-469-3783 or email
