Five flamingos made a surprising appearance in Port Washington, Wisconsin. This marked the first sighting of the species in the state’s history. The flamingos were seen wading along a Lake Michigan beach, far from their usual tropical setting. The birds, three adults with pink plumage and two gray juveniles, stood about 25 feet off the lake’s shoreline.
… While the sighting of real flamingos is a first for Wisconsin, the state has a quirky love for plastic flamingos. In Madison, a prank involving plastic flamingos turned into a tradition, and in 2015, the Madison Common Council declared the plastic flamingo the official bird of the city.
Here's how the story was covered by some TV stations this weekend.
