82-year-old Jane Dotchin, a Scottish retiree with impaired vision, has completed a 600-mile journey on her horse with her dog in her saddlebag. Dotchin, who has been making the trip since 1972, covers 15 to 20 miles per day and sleeps in a tent during the seven-week adventure. She survives on porridge, oatcakes, and cheese and carries an old mobile phone with a long-lasting battery.
… Jane is an experienced horsewoman and has been undertaking this journey for the past 50 years. She travels with her 13-year-old horse, Diamond, and her disabled Jack Russell, Dinky.
… Jane’s love for long-distance trekking began around when she rode a horse 300 miles to visit a friend. After that initial journey, she caught the taste for the open road and has been traveling to visit friends every autumn since.
… Self-sufficiency: Jane carries everything she needs on her back, including her tent, food, and a few key belongings.
