A 19-year-old international student from Vietnam thought she had applied to study at Miami University in Florida. However, when she received her acceptance letter, she realized she had actually applied to Miami University in Ohio. Valerie Do, who couldn’t visit the university before applying, was initially confused by the acceptance letter welcoming her to Ohio. Upon searching online, she discovered that Miami University in Ohio was not the beachside paradise she had envisioned, but rather a cornfield in the Midwest. After conducting further research, Do realized that Miami University in Ohio had a reputable business school, so she ultimately decided to accept the offer and moved from Vietnam to Ohio. Do is not only a student, but also a campus tour guide and often shares her story with students.

She said she hadn't researched the university until she'd been accepted but that she'd decided to accept the offer because of the financial aid she was offered, the scholarship they gave her, the safety of the area, and the business program.
