The latest TikTok trend: DimpleMaking and it could cause permanent scarring

The hashtag #dimplemaker has about 61 million views on TikTok, and the strange product is selling out on sites like Etsy. Dimple makers compress the skin and are supposed to create dimples in the cheeks.

When dimples occur naturally, they are inherited.

However, some doctors are warning against the trend, saying dimple making devices could cause scarring chronic pain.

The first dimple-making tool was created in 1936 by Isabelle Gilbert. Indents in the cheeks can also be created via a procedure called dimpleplasty.
