A 6-week-old kitten named Athena is making remarkable progress after being found taped inside a sandwich container in Utah. Police discovered the kitten when they noticed two people slumped over in a car covered in cat fur. The officers heard a faint meow and found the kitten stuffed into a container that was duct-taped shut, with only its head poking out. The kitten was given water and taken to a veterinary clinic for examination.
… At the vet, Athena was treated for head trauma, singed fur, bruising, and an eye injury. Preliminary tests also revealed that she had tested positive for meth and amphetamine. Despite her poor condition, the medical staff is optimistic that Athena will make a mostly full recovery.
Members with Angel Paws Veterinary Services released a news release on Tuesday stating that Athena, weighing only 1.24 lbs, suffered head trauma, singed fur, bruising, and an eye injury.
"She also tested positive for meth and amphetamine, according to preliminary results," members of the vet said.
Despite the challenges, she was upgraded from critical to stable condition.
