Pam Smith, a 75-year-old resident of St. Petersburg, Florida, had a terrifying wake-up call earlier this month. At 3 AM, she was startled awake by the sound of banging and ringing at her front door. Wondering who could possibly be at her house at such an early hour, Pam hurried to answer the door, only to find that her front deck was engulfed in flames.
… The unexpected hero in this story is Josh Herring, a newspaper carrier for the Tampa Bay Times. Josh had noticed the fire while on his delivery route and quickly alerted Pam. Together, they worked to put out the fire, using a hose and taking turns spraying water on the flames.
