On Thursday’s Today show, Larry David, known for his role in Curb Your Enthusiasm, got physical with the beloved Sesame Street puppet Elmo. The incident occurred during a segment when Elmo was discussing his viral mental health pop-in.
… Larry approached Elmo and playfully put both hands on him, smacking his face and even taking a swipe at Elmo’s dad, Louie. The anchors, Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, and Craig Melvin, were taken aback. Savannah expressed that Larry had gone too far, while Al Roker admitted he wasn’t surprised by the comedian’s actions.
… Larry’s response to the criticism was simple yet unapologetic, stating, “Somebody had to do it!!!” However, in true Larry David fashion, he ultimately apologized before discussing the upcoming final season of Curb Your Enthusiasm. Elmo graciously accepted Larry’s apology.
Meanwhile Elmo asked people how they were doing...and the Internet answered. The Muppet's X post received over 180 million views Wednesday afternoon and sparked conversations on multiple social platforms.
"Elmo is just checking in! How is everybody doing?" His X post reads. (See it below.)
"Not well Elmo they done raised rent and everything at this point I'm coming to live with u on sesame Street," Babygirl Whroway said on Facebook.
"Elmo I'm suffering from existential dread over here," X user @David_Leavitt said.
Considerate user @ohgoshga turned the question back around: "Has anyone checked in on you, Elmo? How’re you, pal?"
