A Powerball player, John Cheeks, is suing Powerball and the DC Lottery after a “mistake” on the lottery’s website led him to believe he won the $340 million jackpot. Cheeks missed the live drawing but checked the website the next day and saw his numbers posted. However, when he tried to redeem his ticket, he discovered none of his numbers matched the actual winning numbers.
… The DC Lottery eventually admitted that a contractor had made a mistake in posting the wrong numbers. Cheeks’ attorney stated that even though a mistake was made, something should be done for his client. The jackpot eventually grew to $754.6 million, and a ticketholder in Washington state claimed the prize on February 6.
