Some Chiefs fans who went to a freezing cold playoff game are now scheduling amputation surgeries.
The Grossman Burn Center at Research Medical in Kansas City says that 70% of those who came in with frostbite burns in January are now being encouraged to schedule amputations.
Many of these patients are Chiefs fans who attended a January playoff game against the Miami Dolphins...the fourth-coldest game in NFL history. Temperatures reached -4 degrees.
One patient removed a glove for just five minutes to set up a tent.
The 30% who do not need amputations are still undergoing treatment, and may be more prone to frostbite in the future.
