The California Highway Patrol was surprised to see a nine-year-old behind the wheel on Wednesday.
The child was spotted driving away from the scene of a traffic incident in Oroville. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
“The vehicle unexpectedly sped off, leading to a short and erratic chase that ended in a dirt parking lot just east of Plumas Avenue Elementary School,” the highway patrol said. The vehicle did run into a patrol car, but caused only minor damage.
The nine-year-old was apparently attempting to drive themselves to school. “The child was safely sent to school after the necessary authorities were alerted,” the patrol added.
