Look who's turning 80 years old in August. And check out the celebrations!

Federal, state, and tribal agencies are coming together August 9th to celebrate Smokey Bear’s 80th birthday! Smokey’s party will kick off at the California State Fair at 12:15 p.m. The public is invited to join and learn why the bear has been a symbol of education and the fight against wildfires. People of all ages can learn about fire safety, fire prevention, the history of Smokey Bear, and traditional Native American uses of fire. Smokey Bear was first featured in an educational poster in 1944. The image showed Smokey pouring water on a campfire while saying “Care will prevent 9 out of 10 fires.”
