Dylan McKay was scrolling through Facebook on Halloween night when he was a post about an injured dog left with broken legs on the side of the road, apparently a hit and run victim.
It didn't take much convincing to ask his fiance to use money set aside for their wedding to care for the dog and give it a second chance at life.
This marked the start of a very emotional journey for Dylan and his fiance Emily Roberts.
He quickly jumped in his car and headed for the location where the dog was spotted. "As I got closer, the dog started trying to crawl to me" but with two broken legs and other injuries that dog would not survive without help.
Family members came to help as they made the trip to an animal hospital which didn't have much faith that the dog could survive. Initially they were told the dog would lose at least one leg and the other needed serious reconstructive surgery.
In all, the cost to save the dog was over $10,000 which cut into their wedding fund.
But there was good news. The vet saved both legs and now the dog, named Maple Acklin, is a part of their family and Emily has a series of posts on her Facebook page keeping folks updated on the dog's gradually improving status.
Here's a story from a local TV station. Kudos to Dylan and Emily for their incredibly selfless act.
