On Saturday, April 5, 2025, officers of the Tybee Island Police Department responded to a local dog park in reference to someone strangling an animal with a leash.
While speaking with our team, the caller stated that they watched a man hoist a dog over a nearby fence and proceed to strangle it by holding it off the ground by its leash. The caller further stated that this went on for approximately 7 seconds, while the dog yelped and gasped for air. When confronted by the caller, the man allegedly broke two fence slats and pulled the dog through the hole he created. He and his companion then rounded up their 4 other dogs, loaded them into their van, and left the scene.
During the course of their conversation, the caller was able to provide a cell phone video to officers. Despite its quality, we felt it’s important to share this video in pursuit of justice for any animals that may have been harmed by the suspect(s).
They are described only as two “middle-aged” white males, one wearing a white t-shirt and the other wearing a “Captain America” shirt. They were reportedly accompanied by a total of five dogs, and traveling in a large, white utility van.
