Texas Roadhouse prepares his dog's last meal with love...and doesn't charge

Texas Roadhouse cooked up a dog's last meal on the house after the business received an online order with a special note.

A Pennsylvania restaurant turned a family's heartbreaking day into a memorable one with a simple act of kindness.

Hunter Metzger and his family were preparing to say goodbye to their beloved Great Dane, Iris, and wanted to make her last day special.

"We wanted to give her that last best day ever," Metzger told reporters with WGAL. "So we took her on car rides, we brought her around to see family and I said you know we're going to get her a steak dinner for her last meal."

The family placed an online order at the Texas Roadhouse in Ephrata, explaining their situation in a message. Kate Weston, an employee at the restaurant, was moved by the note.

"The to-go people know I'm such an animal lover. They showed me and I was like, 'oh my God, I've got to make this the best steak ever,'" Weston told the station.

Weston decorated the meal container with hearts and messages, and when Metzger arrived to pick up the order, he was met with condolences from the staff.

"They said we saw your note and with tears in all of our eyes. They said we definitely prepared it with love," Metzger said when speaking to WGAL.

Weston added, "In that moment, nothing mattered but getting Iris her last meal."

Metzger shared the touching experience on a community Facebook page, and the response was overwhelming.

The restaurant covered the cost of Iris's last meal. Metzger expressed gratitude for the kindness shown during a difficult time, telling the station, "We needed that bright spot in this tough time."

The family made the difficult decision to put Iris down after she stopped responding to medication for a nasal growth.
