WHAT IS OPERATION NEW HOPE?
OPERATION NEW HOPE is a joint venture of the Chatham County Sheriff's Office and the Humane Society of Greater Savannah. The program pairs dogs with inmates at the Chatham County Jail who live with the dogs for four weeks, socializing, training, and housebreaking them, before they go up for adoption.
The goal of ONH is to give dogs with poor prospects for adoption a second chance, and to reduce recidivism rates by giving inmates the opportunity to acquire new transferable skills and experience accountability.
Out of this 6 dogs up for adoption during this cycle, 4 were adopted leaving these two dogs to still find their homes. The dogs are trained, socialized and know basic commands.
