We want to thank all of our residents and guests for their patience throughout this major storm event. Currently there are over 20,000 customers without power and many impassable roads due to flooding and downed trees as result of Hurricane Irma's impact on Beaufort County, which was downgraded to a tropical storm since this morning. We want to get all of our evacuated residents back home and to their businesses as soon as possible and, more importantly, as soon as it is deemed safe. No reentry times are available as of yet. We encourage those who have evacuated to stay informed and to remain in place, until Sheriff's Office Emergency Management has a better idea on possible reentry times. That being said, the storm has not passed us as of yet and Beaufort County's barrier islands are still under an evacuation order by Governor Henry McMaster. Reentry will not be allowed until that order is lifted. Again, please stay informed by trusted government sources rather than social media. The County Channel is now out in affected areas of Beaufort County taking video of damage and flooding. We expect within the next few hours videos and links will be sent as soon as they are available. As was the case in Hurricane Matthew, there are areas in Beaufort County much less affected than others. Please keep that in mind when viewing social media posts of those who elected to remain behind. You are welcome to visit our DropEvent link https://dropevent.com/slideshow/BeaufortCountySO to view photographs of affected areas taken by our first responders.
