On Wednesday, which just happened to be National Coming Out Day, Katy Perry staged a proposal for a gay couple during her concert at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Katy brought the couple, Katie and Becky, onstage and asked them what they would wish for. In a moment captured by many fans, Katie said, “I don’t know if all of y’all have seen Becky, but she’s pretty even without any makeup on. And she’s perfect every time I look at her.” She then got down on one knee, pulled out a ring box and popped the question to Becky, whose birthday it just so also happened to be.
Perry screamed, “Say yes, Becky, if you want to get married!” Becky did, the crowd went wild, and the newly engaged couple shared a hug and a kiss. “My wish came true,” said Katie.
Approving fans posted about the event online, with one writing, “Katy Perry is so woke, she had a lesbian proposal on National Coming Out Day at her concert tonight.”
Katy’s Witness tour will run through next August, but in between tour legs, she’ll judge ABC’s American Idol.
Meanwhile, Katy isn’t dating John Mayer anymore, but she still has love for his dad.
She wished his pops a happy 90th birthday on Instagram Wednesday. John posted a photo of himself celebrating with his dad, Richard Mayer, and Katy commented, “Looking fantastic as ever! Happy birthday friend.”
Katy and John split last year after dating on and off for three years.
