Savannah Farmer's Market Update: Farm Truck 912

FARM TRUCK 912 LAUNCHES NEW SCHEDULE FOR 2018

The Farm Truck 912 is a mobile market program of the Forsyth Farmers’ Market that aims to improve healthy food access by bringing locally produced fruits and vegetables into Savannah’s neighborhoods. The program serves as an extension of FFM’s mission to promote a local food system in Savannah. 2018 marks the third year of operation for the farm truck. With continued support from generous donors and foundations, this year FT912 will have unprecedented reach for delivering services into Savannah’s neighborhoods via the farm truck. The farm truck will serve 8 centers and surrounding neighborhoods this season:

Monday:

12:00-2:00pm at WW Law Library, 909 E Bolton St.

Tuesday 1:00-2:30pm at Skidaway Island, 1 W Ridge Rd. 3:30-5:30pm at Daffin Park, 1301 E. Victory Dr.

Wednesday:

1:00-2:30pm at Savannah Gardens, 515 Pennsylvania Ave. 3:30-5:15pm at Lady Bamford, 1410 Richards St.

Thursday

12:30-2:00pm at Sheppard's Gas & Food Mart, 1302 W Gwinnett St.

Sunday

11:00-1:00pm at Jewish Educational Alliance, 5111 Abercorn St.

The farm truck will carry an extended variety of goods this year; fruits, vegetables, honey, breads, coffee, meats, and eggs. Products are bought directly from vendors at the Forsyth Farmers’ Market to support local farmers and food producers. Consumers will receive products that are fresh, nutritious, minimally processed, and travel short distances. Mark Bowen, the Farm Truck 912 manager states, “I hope that Farm Truck 912 becomes a vehicle that not only makes accessible fresh, locally grown food at affordable prices, but is ultimately a program that is largely controlled by our community.” The FFM team would love for volunteers, patrons, and the communities we serve at large to mold farm truck services to fit their needs. We encourage volunteer and farm truck committee involvement in order for feedback to be received. As Mark says, it’s an effort for the community, by the community.
