BEAUFORT COUNTY’S FIRST EDUCATION AND RESOURCE CENTER

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF THE LOWCOUNTRY FUNDS BEAUFORT COUNTY’S FIRST EDUCATION AND RESOURCE CENTER

Bluffton Self Help is pleased to open Beaufort County’s first Education and Resource Center funded, in part, by Community Foundation of the Lowcountry. In November the Community Foundation awarded a grant in the amount of $87,654 to create a community education and resource center. The center will provide access to employment, life skills, technology and job skill training, giving Lowcountry residents access to business services and computers.

“Bluffton Self Help’s mission is to provide free food, clothing and emergency financial assistance to Bluffton residents,” says Kimberly Hall, Bluffton Self Help’s executive director “The Education and Resource Center takes our mission a step further to help our neighbors find their path to self-reliance.”

The center will not be limited to Bluffton residents, but open to all residents in Beaufort County. “With funding from the Community Foundation, we are able to open a space with dedicated staff to support people seeking services. Whether they need a place to fax a resume or write a resume, our new Center will help navigate area services,” Hall says. “This is beyond Bluffton Self Help; this is a collaboration of community agencies working together to provide the best possible resources to our neighbors. Education is critical to success and breaking down barriers and offering a place for people to get help will only make our community stronger. We are grateful for the Community Foundation’s faith and support in helping us creates a space to empower people.”

The Bluffton Self Help Education and Resource Center is located at 39 Sheridan Park Circle, Unit 9 located next to Bluffton Self Help’s food and clothing distribution. The hours of operation are still being determined and a Grand Opening and Hilton Head/Bluffton Chamber ribbon cutting will take place, Thursday, February 22nd at 9 am.
