SC Congressional candidate Katie Arrington hurt in fatal car accident

After beating Mark Sanford in the state primary, Katie Arrington was seriously injured Friday night in a head on collision involving a vehicle going the wrong way.

Last night around 9pm Arrington was traveling US17 near Adams Run outside Charleston County headed to Hilton Head to receive an award Monday when a vehicle going the wrong way hit the car she was in.

That stretch of US17 is a two-lane and has no lights and an area where many accidents take place. The driver of the other vehicle was killed. Arrington has a back fracture and broken ribs and was taken to MUSC in Charleston where she will undergo surgery.

This was just released from the Beaufort County Republican Party:

Last night our Republican nominee for the First Congressional District, SC Representative Katie Arrington, was involved in a fatal accident caused by a driver traveling the wrong way on Highway 17 in the same lane.  Rep. Arrington and her friend, Jacquelin Goff, were both taken to MUSC in serious condition.  Rep. Arrington had surgery last night and will have more surgeries.  She is expected to be in the hospital for another two weeks.  According to news reports, the other driver was killed.

Rep. Arrington and Ms. Goff were driving to Hilton Head to accept an award from a state medical organization.  As they were on their way to an event in Beaufort County, we are doubly saddened and concerned.

I am asking everyone to please keep Rep. Arrington and all the accident victims as well as their families in your prayers.

Sherri Zedd, Chairman

Beaufort County Republican Party
