Accident at Georgetown Temporarily Shuts Down Eastbound Abercorn Extension
Chatham County Police and Chatham Emergency Services responded to a tanker fire that has eastbound Abercorn Extension (HWY 204) at King George Blvd closed. The tanker driver lost control and hit the center median catching on fire. The driver was able to exit the tanker without injury and no other cars were involved.
The tanker is leaking sewage and diesel fuel. Clean up will take several hours and police are currently rerouting traffic at HWY 17 until the road is cleaned up.
Motorist are advised to seek alternate routes and stay off Abercorn Extension (HWY204) eastbound.
