For the third year in a row, the Town of Bluffton has been listed in the top 10 of Safest Cities in South Carolina. This year, Bluffton is ranked #4 by HomeSnacks, a website that collects data from various sources to help understand what it’s like to live in different communities across the country. Bluffton was named the 10th safest city in 2017 and 5th safest city in 2018 by the SafeWise Report.“Being named the 4th safest city in South Carolina is a reflection on how well the community and police work alongside each other in preventing crime and truly caring about their neighbors and community. When you work together, amazing things can happen,” said Bluffton Police Chief Chris Chapmond.Bluffton Mayor Lisa Sulka said that, while she was excited for the Town to be recognized, she was not surprised at the honor. “Our police department is so proactive and visible in our Town, and in the most positive ways, donating their time and collecting donated goods for worthy causes, spending time with our youth and so many other things. The relationship they build with the community are an important part of being a safe community. Being on that list is no accident,” said Sulka.
Some of the sources used in collecting data to determine the safest cities include the U.S. Census Bureau, FBI, and OpenStreetMaps. In total,
