Hurricane Dorian Update For Jasper County South Carolina

In conjunction with Governor Henry McMaster’s order of evacuation, the Jasper County Council has signed a Local Declaration of Emergency at 12:00 PM today. Residents who reside in Zone A of Jasper County should put their emergency plans into action and evacuate inland.

Please take into consideration that when winds exceed 40mph sustained, Emergency Services will NOT be able to respond to ANY calls. It is vital for residents to understand that if they choose to disregard the mandatory evacuation, they are assuming responsibility for their safety.

The local shelter opened at the Ridgeland/Hardeeville School Complex located at 250 Jaguar Trail, Ridgeland SC 29936. This shelter cannot support individuals with special medical needs. If you have special medical needs that are outside the means of this facility, call (855)-472-3432 for assistance.

The shelter will accommodate evacuees and some household pets. Evacuees seeking shelter should bring with them essential hygiene products, essential bedding items, important documents, 72 hours of food supply for those with restrictive diets, and at least a 7 day supply of medication.

Evacuees with pets must bring pet food, a pet crate, and a 6-foot maximum leash.

Jasper County Schools as well as State and County offices will be closed today and tomorrow. General Sessions and Traffic Court have been canceled for the remainder of the week and will be rescheduled at a later date. Recycling Centers are closed today Sept. 2, open tomorrow Sept. 3, and closed as normal on Sept. 4.

In addition, the Jasper County School District has begun a transportation pickup route at the following locations in order to bring residents who may not have transportation to the shelter. Pickups began at 12:00 PM Monday, September 2nd and will run approximately every hour until 8:00 PM. Transportation services will resume the following day beginning at 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM.
