At this time, the Chatham County Animal Shelter is open! We have many animals that need loving homes.
To minimize the risks in accordance with recommendations from the CDC and Chatham County Health Department, we are limiting the number of citizens in our facility at any one time. Most recommendations are that social distancing is one of the best ways to keep everyone safe.
We are cleaning/sanitizing the facility regularly and have hand sanitizer. We are also practicing good hand washing techniques with regards to human-to-human interactions, as well as, human-to-animal ones.
We ask that visitors to the shelter schedule an appointment. We can be reached at (912) 652-6575 or through our website, https://animalservices.chathamcountyga.gov/, following the “contact us” link at the top of the screen.
Once arriving at the shelter, visitors can call the front desk at the above number to be checked in. After checking in, we ask that you wait in your vehicle or outside the building until we are able to serve you.
We will continue to adopt and take in animals as needed.
We ask that you contact our office prior to bringing any animal to the shelter. There are many options in our community for possible assistance regardless of your situation. We may be able to direct you to alternatives to bringing them the shelter.
With respect to officer response, we are continuing services as usual.
As far as adoptions are concerned, we are taking a proactive approach to find homes for as many animals as possible. We have posted the animals available for adoption on our Facebook page. In many cases, we can conduct VIRTUAL ADOPTIONS. If you see an adoptable animal on our Facebook page that interests you but are hesitant to come into the facility, we can send you a detailed video of the dog or cat, as well as, meet you outside the facility to avoid crowds to complete the adoption process.
Please come find your new pet!!
