WOMAN KAYAKS TO FLOOD-RAVAGED MICHIGAN HOME TO RESCUE HER MOTHER’S ASHES

A woman with a kayak was determined to retrieve her late mother’s ashes from her destroyed house following the flooding of two dams in Sanford, Michigan, that left thousands homeless. Kathy Parsch was among the nearly 11,000 mid-Michigan flood evacuees devastated by last Tuesday’s rainfall. Unfortunately, her attempt to salvage her mother’s remains this past weekend was unsuccessful. When Parsch and her friends arrived at her former address, they found only the building’s foundation where her home used to stand. They soon spotted the shelter, reportedly floating downriver. Once they caught up to the house they found nearly everything inside was destroyed, and unfortunately, Parsch was not able to find her mother’s ashes.… Parsch said of her mother, “I think she wanted to go down with the ship. She wanted to stay with my house, I think.”

Her friends have started a GoFundMe campaign to help Parsch recover her losses
