Harry Potter author JK Rowling has announced a new story called The Ickabog to entertain children during coronavirus lockdown. Rowling started writing The Ickabog while she was still completing the original Wizarding World series, and intended to publish it following the seventh — and final — Harry Potter book. However, she decided to step back from children’s books and left a draft of The Ickabog in the attic, where it remained for nearly a decade. Rowling says the new story is not a Harry Potter spin-off, but a “stand-alone fairy tale.” It’s available to read online for free at theickabog.com.
I have a small announcement, but before I get started, I
want to head off one possible source of confusion.

THIS IS NOT A HARRY POTTER SPIN-OFF
Over 10 years ago, I wrote a stand-alone fairy tale called
The Ickabog. You can read more about how, why and
when The Ickabog was written at https://www.jkrowling.com/j-k-rowling-introduces-the-ickabog/ …
Each weekday, over the next seven weeks, a new instalment will be published. We hope you and your children will enjoy this original fairy tale!
