You don’t mess with New Yorkers, even if they’re 84-years-old. Police say 84-year-old Oliver Neligan was attacked in Woodside, Queens on Sunday morning (August 2nd) after leaving a deli. It turns out that Neligan, a retired MTA employee and veteran, fought off a would-be robber with a cup of coffee. The police report says the attacker followed Neligan and then put his hands around his neck, that’s when Neligan threw his cup of coffee at the person, who then pulled Neligan to the ground. Neligan says, “I grabbed the mask from his face and he took off running.” Neligan was taken to the hospital with some injuries, but is expected to be ok. The mugger got no money from him, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
