Man reunited with dog he thought had died in California wildfire

When The Apple Fire burning in California was getting close to Greg Skeens' home, his Australian Cattle Dog named Buck took off into the woods.

"It was one big orange flame all the way around the house, and I thought... I thought we were going to die."

Firefighters stood their ground and saved Skeens' home. But the fires soon pushed a wave of wild animals out of the hills and onto Skeens' property. "He was chasing a coyote three times his size." But Greg was worried because Buck did not return.

"What he don't know -- is coyotes eat dogs," Skeens said. "Yup. I thought he was gone."

Firefighters actually found Buck farther out into the fire line. They thought he was burned, but he wasn't. The firefighters carried Buck back to safety and handed him over to animal control officers. When an officer ran into Greg and heard about Buck he was able to reunite the best friends.

After three days apart, Buck latched onto Skeens' leg and refused to let go.

"He didn't want me to go anywhere."
