Florida bar owner bans face masks in his establishment

Westside Bar Bans Face Masks

Some people just ignore science. Gary Kirby owns Westside Sports Bar and Lounge in West Melbourne, Florida, has banned people from wearing masks or face coverings at his establishment amid the pandemic. He says he doesn’t “agree” with the idea of wearing masks. He tells Fox News he’s been getting death threats over his policy, but adds that the people in his town have “for the most part been in 100% support” of his decision. Kirby reportedly began banning patrons with masks as of September 11th, claiming the CDC recommended safety precaution is “hindering our lifestyle as we know it.” He also claims that face masks make it more difficult to tell if a patron has been overserved, and alleges that he was burglarized after hours on August 9th by a man wearing a surgical mask. People on social media have met his mask policy with mixed reviews. West Melbourne is located in Brevard County, where county commissioners decided in July that businesses must clearly state their own mask policies—and whether they require them—at entrances.
