It seems someone’s always going to get hurt with this trend. There’s a new TikTok trend that shows dog owners running in opposite directions and then seeing which way their dog chooses to run. It’s supposed to reveal “who your dog loves more” but of course, this is only TikTok, not science. Daily Paws director and professional dog trainer Haylee Bergeland says this isn’t an accurate way of measuring who is the dog’s favorite, as the dog may have only seen one of the parents sprint away and chose to follow them without even knowing the other human was doing the same. Another reason could be that your dog associates one of you with running-around playtime more than the other, so she chooses to follow the parent she most associates with that kind of activity. Bergeland adds, “Context is the crucial party here, and so is just the general relationship dynamic in the family. Who plays with the dog the most, who reinforces the dog the most, who does the dog generally pay the most attention to in any given context…”
