The Yankees had themselves a true cat-astrophe on Monday — and no, it wasn’t the 7-1 loss to the Orioles. A feline visitor on the warning track brought the matchup to a halt in the bottom of the eighth inning, as it darted around the outfield and eluded Yankee Stadium grounds crew. Fans chanted “MVP!” at the stunned animal before the grounds crew — playing the role of cat to the actual cat’s mouse — was able to corral it along the left-field foul line. The feline represented a different challenge for Stadium workers, who have had to deal with rowdy fans in recent games. One was tackled after trying to run across the field, while another was banned for live after throwing a ball at Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo. There is no update on the cat’s whereabouts as of writing, though it’s possible it could return as a pinch-runner down the stretch.
