This certainly takes courage. Suzan Maricano [age 74] was walking her dog Nalu near a lake at Burt Aaronson Park near Boca Raton last month when she took the animal off its leash so it could play in the water. She soon spotted a shadow in the lake, which turned out to be an alligator. She says the gator, about six-feet-long, attacked Nalu in the water, gripping the dog in its jaws, and Marciano says she fought back-- and “came down on the alligator with all my weight.” She suffered a puncture wound in the middle of her palm during the tussle, and received five stitches. Nalu suffered puncture wounds to her stomach and thigh, and went into surgery for two hours at an animal emergency clinic.
