Hawkeye the dog (not the MASH character) went through a harrowing experience after falling into a 30-foot pit, where he spent perhaps up to two weeks, but now he has been finally reunited with his owner.

Some friends who were looking for caves came across the black-and-white dog and found him to be in a state of starvation after falling into the pit. They then proceeded to take care in lifting him out.

He was taken to Animal Control and named Dewey after the park in which he was found. Animal control decided to put out a call for donations to help pay for the medical care needed to get Dewey back to a healthy condition.

All that attention made its way to a man saying he knew the dog, and that the dog was not named Dewey, but Hawkeye and it was his dog. After going through the proper process to identify the man as his rightful owner, animal control welcomed him for a reunion with his pet.

Hawkeye happily wagged his tail upon hearing his actual name as he reunited with his owner who said the dog was let out to go to the bathroom when he took off running. He was missing for about two weeks so it was assumed by animal control that he fell into the pit very soon after he ran off.

"We believe the dog was eventually able to wiggle free and dropped to the bottom of the cave," said a spokesperson for animal control.

Hawkeye survived despite no known food source. There was, however, according to the cavers, a hollowed-out, overturned turtle shell that was collecting rainwater. This sole water supply may have been the only thing that kept Hawkeye alive during his ordeal.
